Insulated cable ferrules should be crimped onto the cores of stranded (multi-wire) conductors. Their purpose is to hold together all individual wires of the conductor and stiffen them before tightening in the terminal. Cable ferrules greatly contribute to the proper operation of electrical devices and installations. Their use increases resistance of the connection to mechanical vibrations and reduces the possibility of short circuits. Terminating a multi-wire conductor with a ferrule also facilitates its installation.
